I loved this manga so much that I read all ten volumes at Borders. The story is about Count D, who runs a pet shop in China Town, and Detective Orcot, who is convinced that he is up to no good and is determined to arrest him. Most of the pets are very exotic, and the people who buy them usually meet tragic ends. But it is always because of human nature that things go wrong. The pets look like humans to Count D and their owners, an interesting feature. The characters are eccentric. Count D is usually dark and mysterious(unless there are sweets around), and thinks that humans are much more beastly than the animals in his shop. Detective Orcot is a more typical guy, who likes girls and drinking, and very stubborn, and his opinions are the exact opposite of Count D's.
The art here is some of the best I've seen, and I've seen a lot. The animals' human forms look exotic and beautiful, they were my favorite parts. But everything is well done. There are light shounen-ai elements in this manga, but not enough to bother you if you don't like that kind of thing.
The art here is absolutely gorgeous. Some of the best I've seen, and I've seen a lot. The animals' human forms are exotic and beautiful. They were my favorite part, but everything else is well done too.
I think that everyone can find something to like here. Most of the plots in the stories are very engaging, and sometimes the plot twists will take you by surprise. If you like this manga, I also suggest that you read "Dolls"(plural, "Doll" is another manga), which is about dolls made from plants. It also takes place in China town. But I liked "Pet Shop of Horrors" a lot.

Pet Shop of Horrors Vol 1 Matsuri Akino 9781591823636 Books Reviews
Pet Shop of Horror revolves around a magical pet shop in Chinatown that just happens to sell pet’s that aren’t like your everyday pet. Each volume is divided into a chapters and each chapter tells a single story of an encounter with this pet shop. Some end up happy while others not so much. In this one my favorite is the one about the girl who was attacked lost her sight and purchased a seeing eye dog/bodyguard. While she can’t see he’s actually a human. What happens when she is attacked change everything. I also loved the killer multiplying bunnies.
I couldn’t sleep last night so I thought I would try a new manga Pet Shop of Horrors sounded interesting so I figured might as well give it a shot. It’s this creepy concept of a pet shop that happens to not sell traditional pets. Each of the pets really fits into the owner life giving them exactly what they needed at that point in their life and some may not end happy ever after. I have to admit I enjoyed the concept it’s unique and fascinating I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know what would happen next. I’m anxious to read the next book so we can learn more about the pet shop but to see what comes out it’s door next. While it may not be a super popular one it’s worth checking out the chapters are perfect for a quick little way to break up the day or just binge reading.
Amazing book, great condition!
👌🏼
It made a great gift, and was well appreciated.
From the moment I read the sequel series I knew I would like this series.
This is my favorite manga series, and I'm in the process of buying it in it's entirety. If you're a fan of XXXholic, or just love tales of mankind being punished for it's hubris then you'll like this.
Pet shop of Horror is one of the best mangas ever out of print. Sadly, a little hard to get ahold of but well worth owning for any dark themed fan. Count D and Leon work off each other beautifully and hold nothing back.
Pet Shop of Horror, where happy endings are few but deserved. Be warned. lol
